Venture beyond the Arlington stadium hosting Super Bowl XLV, and you'll find not only the glitz of Dallas, but also welcoming neighborhoods and residents.
"People who haven't been to Dallas before will be surprised," Rogers says. He shares some favorite spots with Larry Bleiberg for USA TODAY.
One of the world's finest private sculpture collections anchors the city's impressive arts district. Designed by Pritzker Prizewinner Renzo Piano, the center displays a who's who of modern art,Louboutin Outlet, including works by Pablo Picasso, Auguste Rodin and Claes Oldenburg, to name a few. "It's a very calm place in the middle of the city," Rogers says, and features an Alexander Calder exhibit through March 6. "This is the cool side of Dallas that you probably would never know was here," Rogers says. Attractions include coffee shops, vintage clothing and a fun candy store called Dude,Red Bottom Pumps, Sweet Chocolate. Although the setting is clichd, it's still breathtaking, Rogers says. "You're not going to get a better view of Dallas." The restaurant's now run by Wolfgang Puck and is known for its sushi. It even has a link to football lore. After Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones fired legendary coach Tom Landry in 1989, this is where a photographer caught Jones offering the coaching job to Jimmy Johnson. The restaurant is bound to be crowded this weekend. "Even on a normal day, there's going to be a wait," Rogers says. In recent years,Louboutin Outlet, new additions have transformed the attraction located south of the Trinity River, Rogers says. At the Giants of the Savanna exhibit, you can buy lettuce leaves and let giraffes eat out of your hand. "You can spend quite a few hours here, and not see everything," he says. The drink selection is overseen by a certified cicerone  sort of a sommelier for beer. "They only have 40 on tap, but many of them are beers you've never have heard of. And there's another 120 in bottles," Rogers says. The 1931 openair mall offers ideal peoplewatching, Rogers says. "This will fill every stereotype you have of Dallas, lots of money, lots of Botox. It's the highest end of the high end." Come here for shoes from Christian Louboutin, dresses from Diane von Furstenberg and engraved shotguns running more than $100,000 from the Beretta Gallery. Brownstone, which features regional ingredients and small plates, made D Magazine's list of the best new restaurants of 2010. "Go for the grandmother's biscuits served in a castiron pan with sausage," Rogers says. It serves drinks with specialized ingredients, including housemade bitters and handcrafted ice. The selfdescribed "cocktail den and comfort food kitchen" features a menu by John Tesar,Find Best Red Bottom Shoes, the former chef at the city's famous Mansion on Turtle Creek. And it's owned by former Green Bay Packers linebacker Brian Williams. "This will be the highestend, most serious cocktail joint in Dallas, and the food will be excellent,Christian Louboutin Pigalle," Rogers says.
